My dog has now increased his value by $850….

Ξ March 6th, 2008 | → 3 Comments | ∇ FOOD, Halo, friends, general life stuff |

Halo

Well, if you have a dog, and like ot chew sugarless gum, I suggest that you loose your taste for the gum, and go with gum that is filled with sugar!

Halo about two weeks ago, decided to put his nose into one of the purses of one of the youth that we were entertaining at our house. Now, this is not unusual in anyway, Halo is a Beagle and therefore his life and mind are ruled by one thing…his nose. And Halo is a smart enough dog that in the past he has been able to unzip purses to get inside and find all kinds of good “treats”. Well, this time he got into a purse with sugarless gum. And I had no idea that almost all sugarless gum has a chemical in it called, Xylitol. And this chemical, is deadly to dogs. For some reason this drug when ingested by dogs causes their blood sugar to slowly drop over the course of two days and then their liver shuts down killing them…. the sad thing is that over the course of the two days nothing is noticeable other than the dog might be a little more tired than usual, and then by the time their liver shuts down it is too late for medical care.

The drug is so dangerous, that one gram of the drug in the sugarless gum causes death, and usually each piece/stick has 2 grams of it! Well, when Tiffany found Halo with the entire package opened and they got to counting it was around 10 pieces that he had eaten.

And by the grace of God Tiffany remembered hearing somewhere that sugarless gum was bad for dogs, immediately yelled down stairs where I was playing Halo 3 with other youth telling of the fact, wel, I did not know that it was bad for dogs, so i just blew it off… well, my genius wife decides to check the internet and finds out all the info that I just gave above! And then she proceeds to take Halo to the emergency hospital in Wilder. (I was not too excited about this, because it is something like $75 just to walk in the door. But, they got halo in and immediatly induced vomiting and then put him on a glucose IV drip. and kept him on watch (suicide watch is what Tiffany and I called it) overnight… we then went to pick him, up expecting to take him home, and they tell us to take his straight to our vet for them to keep him, and they decide to keep him over night as well, and at one point that day they called Tiffany and told her they thought his liver was shutting down and they might need to call her back with bad news…. aaarrrggg.. i was in Lexington the whole day…anyway, long story shorter, Halo came home and even to this day continues to take a pill each day to make sure his liver is OK….but throughout it all it cost us $850. And I mean wow! Here is a dog that brings us so much joy everyday, but that is about to run into the money that we personally (not the help from parents or others) have saved up to pay for us to someday have a baby…and it was a very tough time for Tiffany, but decisions were made and we still have a wonderful loving Halo!

BUT, if you are a dog lover, PLEASE remove all sugarless gum from your house and let visitors know if they bring in purses, coats, etc…..

KUTPs!!!! and have a great day!

for more info on the drug Xylitol click below:

A report in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association has just shown a link between the sugar substitute Xylitol, and illnesses in dogs. In fact, it is so bad, possibly causing acute liver failure that out of eight dogs found to have ingested Xylitol, 5 died or had to be euthanized.

Xylitol is a commonly used sweetener used in sugarfree gums, candies and even baked goods. So keep an eye on the ingredients when feeding your dog human treats.

I ran this morning!!!!

Ξ January 16th, 2007 | → 5 Comments | ∇ FOOD, blog site changes, running, vblog |

Well, I must confess, I gained 10 lbs this holiday between the great food of one mother and one mother-in-law…..(and man it was almost worth it, heh….. so anyway it felt so good to get back on track at the track, heh. You really have no idea how much you miss it until you get to do it again. I noticed this was the first time I ran since Oct. 31st!!!! Holy cow that is a long time, but I guess that is what a torn hamstring, tendonitis, death of a loved one, Thanksgiving, and Christmas will do to ya, heh…. but my new year resolution is to loose 65 lbs by the middle of next year!

So with that goal in mind…I need all of you to hold me accountable!!! Desperately! So…. Nike and Apple listened to me and they created a widget for the blog that will show all of you my workout progress and the gaol I have set for myself. It is over there on the right side of the blog… you can see that I set my goal for Jan. to be 15 miles…. I run on average a mile a day 4-5 days a week, so I hope to reach this goal for the month…and I have said that if I do not reach my goal then I will not drink any soda at all in the month of Feb….. so here goes the fun!!!

OK, also I added my Video blog to the bottom of the blog, as well as, gave this blog some Bawls…. I knew it had some, but I just wanted to make sure everyone knew that it had two and notice they are sugar free too, heh…

Oh….and if anyone has a Nike+ iPod adapter (or got one for Christmas)…and would like to join in the challenges I have created or the ones I am in…please just email me and I will add you to be invited! Thanks!

Yall have a wonderful week, and keep an eye on that running progress for me…I need all the accountability I can get! Oh and if you ever eat with me make sure I do not eat any carbs….well, a low amount of this if possible…thanks! KUTPs!!!

(and she actually told me that she would be OK with NOT going to Chick-fil-A heh….) but other than that she has not said anything yet of what else she would like to do..so there might be a surprise in there too! Thank yall God bless…oh and if you live in the area and love Tiffany, then you are more that welcome to come over to our house 6:00 pm on Saturday and eat some cake and play lots of games to celebrate the life of Tiffany! The welcome visit from West Texas and our first frost/snow….

Ξ November 21st, 2006 | → 2 Comments | ∇ FOOD, general life stuff, pictures by me |

Here is the first frost/snow of the year…as you can see it was not much…but I am really praying for a really good snow this year! And man I have got to tell you that I am sick and tired of the weather forecasters around here talking about how bad it is! Man I love snow and I wish I could email them and chew them out.

Here is Shook (yes, that is the name he goes by…it is his last name), Amy beside him and Jason (her husband (beside her))…and of course Tiffany is beside Shook. You can also see Kelly on the far left..but Courtney got out of the picture some how (well there is a little of his lap showing there).

Not sure if you can see it….but we are all standing on the benches singing songs!!! Of course, most of the songs were about beer, but it was still tons of fun!!! To the tune of “Do a deer”, Dough, the stuff that buys my beer, “Ray” the guy who pours my bear, “Me” the guy who drinks my beer, “fa” not a long way from my beer, “So” I’ll drink another Beer, la la la la la la BEER!!!…etc… you get the point it was VERY funny and as you can imagine there were a few around us that “really” liked the song, heh heh….

And yes they let you carve and write stuff on their tables…and so Tiffany wrote this…. KUTPs!!! Miss yall (Shook, Jason, and Amy tell Namiqa, Jeff, and everyone else I love them too and am praying fo rthem!), and know that yall are in my prayers down there is the promise land!

Welcome to Seattle’s Pike Place Market………

Ξ November 4th, 2006 | → 4 Comments | ∇ FOOD, friends, pictures by me, travel |

Well after a VERY crazy ride to the Market…man the public transit system is filled with lots of “interesting” people. We had a very nice driver, and a very needed crack user, and one lady in the back that was mad at them both…heh…tons of fun…so we go toff the bus, ran into a Rite Aid to buy umbrella’s… so duh…it is freaking Seattle, heh…. and then we met some really good friends of mine @ the market right here at this place…where they are known for throwing fish….

Here is Juaniece enjoying a fish being thrown at her, heh heh… she so was sweet…we got there very late and they were about to close up…but she got them to throw one more fish so I could take a picture of it!!! She was so sweet and it was so good to see her and her husband Neil(sp?)!!! They really treated us wonderfully!…and even got our dinner that night! more on that later…but check out the flying fish above her head!!! Sorry it is blurry, but still very cool! Here is a Monk Fish…why do I have one of the ugliest fish in the world on my blog?…well, 1) because it is freaking ugly, 2) it had a sign next to it that said it was a Monk Fish, 3) Monk Fish liver is my favorite Sushi!!!

The one about my identity theft on eBay, running with Nike and apple by my side, and I have been tagged……

Ξ August 10th, 2006 | → 10 Comments | ∇ Cultural Architect Stuff, FOOD, Tech, running, stuff found on the internets |

I think I am dreaming:

yep I am…man I am hungry and tired…so this picture is what I do most of the time, while I am on a diet and waking up early to run each morning! mmmmm sushi boat! (insert Homer Simpson hunger talk)

Hey everyone look I just posted another post within one week of each other! I have not done that in forever…well forever is a long time, but long enough for most of yall to not check the blog each day/week(/or even each month)…so as always I apologize for the long time between posts, but I will attempt to be better at it and I promise that somewhere down the line I will apologize again and again and again. Oh well such is life!

Well, live is going good now-a-days. I think every now and then I get into a funk about work/life/children/etc… and my mind tends to deal with everything all at one time and then I find myself sitting in the corner of a padded room with a padded coat and a door with a small window and a small slit in the door that food comes to me every so often……

Well it is not that bad…but I do try to take everything that I need to do in one week or one month and think that it all needs to be done that day! and then I get stressed out and then just shut down and become complacent for a few days (Tiffany would say “more like a few weeks” right here, ha ha) But I am out and I have emerged from the funk… (not depression…just stress, just in cause those of you who care so much about me are getting worried right here…and besides you (readers of the D.G. blog) of all people out there should know that I have a tendency to exaggerate things, ha ha ha)

I contribute many things to getting out of the funk… Finishing my sermon for last week and this week (I will put it up here soon once I polish it and get the right credit to where it is due from where I got my research from), playing around with my new iPod, and playing around with my new Nike+/Apple iPod accessory that gets me out of bed in the morning excited to go run!

That leads me to the Nike+/Apple cool thing I bought!!!!

Man this thing is soooo cool! Ok so if you own an iPod and you work out…then you really should just splurge and shell out $30 to get this product (and some of you would not even consider that a splurge!) What does it do you may ask? (insert annoying tv salesman voice here) Well, let me tell you, heh heh….

Basically the Nike + iPod is two small items….. One plugs directly into your iPod (it is very small and looks just like the other iPod products…crisp and clean design). The other thing is a small round device that is designed to be inserted into special Nike+ shoes. BUT…. I am not going to be suckered into buy new shoes…Especially since I went to a run walk shop and bought shoes that are supposed to be perfect for my feet and run/walk style…so I just did what this guy did and attached the round transmitter to the tongue of my shoe under my shoe laces.

And it works GREAT!

OK so why do I want you to buy one? Well,

#1… It is a great motivator to start/restart to work out! I mean seriously I never want to run or work out and I am loving it now.

#2….Not only can you keep progress of your workouts…but you can actually run with me! Yes that is right…if you get one and sign up then we can challenge one another (unlimited number that I can tell) and we have have races for distance, time, or number of runs all in a specific time…so… you can create a challenge to see who can run the most miles in 14 days (2 weeks)….or the fastest mile in one week…etc… the possibilities are limitless, and for those of you who can actually run a mile or 20 without stopping……(watch out I am coming up from behind, heh) then you can compare your stats with people all over the US and/or the United Kingdom!

This thing really is amazing and I would love some company to run with….even if you really would kick my butt!…So If you own an iPod, join this fat guy and lets go running….well more like a very slow jog and walk for me right now)!

I wonder if they have some way of showing my running progress on this blog? hmmm….

—————————

Ok what else is going on?

Well, I got tagged by Markus Watson over @ StreachyChurch Blog (<--- read more about the tag right there) who I prerached for yesterday (Sermon is coming soon to the blog)...so let me get that out of the way...and then tag someone else.... 1. One book that changed your life: (Other than The Bible I am guessing...) The New Testament and the People of God (Christian Origins and the Question of God) by N.T. Wright

2. One book that you ha’ve read more than once:
Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss

3. One book you would want on a desert island:
(again assuming something other than the Bible)
The Lord Of The Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
Throw in The Hobbit (by J.R.R. Tolkien) and The Complete Far Side by Gary Larson and I would be expreamly happy…as long as I had something other than the paper in the books to use for fire and toilet paper)

4. One book that made you laugh:
Praise Habit: Finding God in Sunsets and Sushi by David A. Crowder

5. One book that made you cry:
Moments With The Savior by Ken Gire

6. One book you wish had been written:
a.k.a. “LOST”: Discovering Ways To Connect With People Jesus Misses Most by Jim Henderson

7. One book you wish had never been written:
I first was going to say The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church…but you know I really do love that book, and it is a part of me and I am a part of it…but sometimes…just like my body it is a love hate relationship, heh.
So….. I guess it would be The Book Of Mormon.

8. One book you’re currently reading:
Seizing Your Divine Moment: Dare to Live a Life of Adventure by Erwin Raphael McManus

9. One book you’ve been meaning to read:
Taking Heaven by Storm: Methodism and the Rise of Popular Christianity in America by John H. Wigger
and
Simply Christian: Why Christianity Makes Sense by N.T. Wright

10. Tag 5 others:

Cory Britt @ coryonomics
J.D. Walt @ FARMstrong
Nate Howard @ My Blog (Mac Style)
Fitz @ Fitz’s Random Ramblings
and John Choi @ John Choi

And the tag has been finished… Usually I ignore tags…but it is hard when you want to look smart and show people that you actualy can read! Even though I would have prefered doing movies in the same mannor…oh well…. now what is next…..

————————————-

AAAAHHHHH, Yes! Ebay identity thieft!

Well, I went to check my email and I noticed that in my email junk folder was a few ebay emails telling me that I had posted a few auctions. Well, I just ignored them because I thought they were spoofing emails , phishing emails , or just plain old SPAM. heh.

But, then I got a few in my inbox instead of my junk mail…and so I decided to log into my ebay account and seewhat is up…and yep, someone figured out my password, or secrete queston answer, and they started posting auctions under my name, etc…. it was crazy! I started freaking out and contact ebay and I got it all taken care of…. but it sure was crazy for 2-3 hours though. I immediatly closed the open auctions, and emailed te finished auctions and email the buyers to not pay anything that, because my idienty had been stole and the auctions online were fraud. Ebay suspeded my account so I could change my password and secret question and then opened it back up….I then went on to change my paypal password, email password, etc…. So… this is a prime example to show all of you that you really need to change your password every 4-6 months! Please do this…. I promise you wil save yourself a lot of heartache, stress, and freaking out!!

Oh and I wanted to send everyone to Tiffany’s Youth Group’s new blog!!! OK, I know this post was long and I will try to shorten the posts…but I had not been on in a long tme and I know that most people who do not have RSS readers have stopped coming here on a weekly basis…so I wanted to fit it all into one blog post instead of 30, heh….

My sermon from the past two weeks will be online soon, so keep a look out for it.

Thanks for reading! God bless yall! And, remember you are being covered in prayer each morning, because I pray for all my blog readers!

The one with the KY trip pictures and a few others….

Ξ May 24th, 2005 | → 5 Comments | ∇ FOOD, friends |

Well, here are the long over due and very few pictures of the KY trip last week. This is John and his woe-man Sylvia (sorry if I misspelled that one)…We met them one evening while we were in KY and had a blast with them…we are hoping to go to their wedding on the 18th of June…but it really depends on if the movers get to KY in time for us to drive up the day before and attend the wedding the next day and then drive back from Chicago the same day of the wedding (it is not bad it is in the morning (11:00 am) so we can be back for our first Sunday in our churches! Yeah it is going to be crazy…but John and Sylvia are worth it! (love yall)OH ad if you want to check out John Choi’s blog…then you can visit him here…(he even has a pew pictures of our meeting this night….and I actually don’t look fat….very impressive john…thanks!!!…OK here it is: John Choi (BTW:nice creative blog name, heh)…..

John and Sylvia smelling the flowers on the table of the Joseph Beth cafe…yeah they are kind of weird…but if you know me at all…you know that I am too, heh…..

john’s typical reaction to Tiffany and her scary laugh….I took the picture at the perfect time, heh….

John applying shampoo…actually I am not sure why he did this…but it was dumb enough to make the “picture on the blog cut”…. heh

the bow before battle…heh……

This picture I like to call “invasion of privacy” ha ha ha ha….poor Sushi was just laying down minding his own business…and then Halo decided that the chair was his…..

Here is one of the college students Tim here in Santa Fe….. Tim just graduated HS and will be joining the Air Force soon…but he will be leaving us to go to CO to do a cool camp with the Navigators! He is awesome and look at those sexy arms and even the angelic lighting behind him….and yes for all you single girls out there he is free and would love a phone call from you….(859) 271-7050 (that’s right gals…he is one heavenly piece of meat!)

And on the other side of the LJS table from the sexy hunk…you get this guy…heh….actually I was drinking my diet coke and I looked into the bottom of the cup to see a dead fly! I stopped drinking and then gave the camera over to Tim to take this picture of my misfortune. WOW…now that is a horrible picture, heh… oh well….at least that strange guy is wearing a cross and has a relationship with God, heh….. Well, yall take care and God bless ya!!!! The blog posts will start to get fewer and fewer because of our lives right now with packing, sermon writing, weddings, and Annual conference..and then a move to KY after that…so please be patient and know that I will always be around for ya so if you need me just give me an email and I will answer as soon as I can! Take care and know that Tiffany and I are praying for you too!!! KUTPs!!!!!!!!!! Posted by Hello
